Recording for the upcoming album, COUNTER-ATTACK, is proceeding at a furious pace.  The CD will be a follow-up to the debut CD, ATTACK TIME (2010).

This album will feature about an hour worth of original Hong Songs, many of which evolved out of A Tuna Week song ideas.

This time around, Hong enlisted the help of a great cast of musicians, including:

Mike Alwicker (the Sybarites) on electric guitar;

Katherine Andrick on violin/fiddle;

Gabi Bucataru (Gabtone Amplifiers) on electric guitar & keyboards;

Ken Champion on pedal steel guitar;

Aaron Davison (Continuum) on acoustic guitar;

Chris Farina (Heinous Dwayne, RockCovery) on electric guitar;

Rob Farina (Heinous Dwayne, RockCovery) on bass guitar – Rob also appeared on 2 tracks on the original ATTACK TIME CD.

Chris Morrow (Old Shoe) on drums;

Jeff Mueller (Miles Out, Lovey Howell) on acoustic guitar, bass, and vocals;

James O’Keefe (Colombian Monkey Knife Fight) on electric guitar;

John Perrin (the Love Shots) on drums;

Greg Poulos (Miles Out) on electric guitar and vocals;

Chad Sebby on acoustic guitar, mandolin, and vocals;

Brendon Wright on Hammond organ & Cover Artwork.

Watch for it . . . IT’S GONNA BE GOOD!!

On April 28, 2012, Guitarist Chris Farina (of Heinous Dwayne & RockCovery) came out to HongSongs Studios to lay down some electric guitar parts on A Day Like Today.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take any photos (you’ll have to take my word for it!)

Chris laid down some an electric rhythm track, which he doubled with a slightly cleaner tone.

He also wailed out a solo, which he also doubled, and also added a harmony guitar at the end of the solo.

Chris’s parts were added to Hong’s keys, Rob Farina‘s bass guitar, Jeff Mueller‘s acoustic guitar, and Chris Morrow‘s drums.

Watch for this track on the upcoming Counter-Attack album. We are nearing completion of tracking. Next will be mixing and mastering, with an anticipated completion date of August 2012 (hopefully!)

On March 28, 2012, we had Ken Champion in studio to record his pedal steel guitar parts on “Fire Away!” and “Valley as Wide”, both songs to be featured on the upcoming Counter-Attack CD.  Here’s a rough mix of Ken playing on “Valley as Wide”:

Working on some Hammond Organ parts for Let’s Live! This song will feature Miles Out members Jeff Mueller (bass guitar & vocals) & Greg Poulos (electric guitar & vocals), along with John Perrin on Drums.

Hammond parts are performed using the Hammond-Suzuki XK-2, with a Yamaha AN-1X controlling the upper manual via MIDI.

Unfortunately I am not playing the Hammond through a “live” Leslie Speaker Cabinet – I have to live with the built-in Leslie/Rotary simulator.  Fortunately, it sounds pretty authentic in the mix!

On January 28, 2012, we had John Perrin in to record drum tracks for the upcoming Counter-Attack! CD.  Recording was done at LNL Recording Studio in Elgin, Illinois.

John played drums on five tracks, including the following songs that originated as A Tuna Week entries:
